Today, we enjoyed fresh fava beans (well, fresh and then shelled and then cooked and then made into a salad with onion, lemon, oil, and salt), what looks like the last of the celery, plus some other veggies, and... STRAWBERRIES! Celery and citrus season is on it's' way out and fava bean, strawberry, peaches and I have no idea what else is on its way in! I am learning to appreciate the seasons, because if it's not in season, we can't buy it. Oh, and the strawberries are like Nova Scotia Valley berries on a great year. Amazing!
I promise to take some food pics soon. It will be my next post.
Love,
Eli
PS Kim and Clint... you're getting married!!! We love you and your marriage and Cam. xoxo

MMMmmmmm Foooooood!!!
ReplyDeleteSo fam - only a couple of weeks until we join you! We might be heading to Vina for a few days once we arrive in Chile? Will you guys have some free time to hang out with us?
Speaking of what's in season - Isabella and I would like to know what we should pack!?! What's the weather like? What type of clothes should we bring? I have to admit that it is terribly difficult to buy summer clothes here, the malls are filled with wool and Christmas carols... sigh.
Can't wait to see you! Take care!
P.S. Post about how your research is going! :)
So much to answer!
ReplyDeleteClothes first. Everyone here says that the climate is changing because the weather is off, but it's been pretty spectacular lately. In Vin(y)a it's a bit milder than Rancagua and when you come will probably be around 25 everyday. When it's overcast it's a lot cooler and it can be windy. The rain left with winter and shouldn't be back for a while. Layers are really important because the temperature changes quickly during the day. I wouldn't worry about buying summer clothes in Calgary. The clothes here are gorgeous and about the same price or sometimes cheaper if you shop at the mall. Also cool and a lot cheaper if you shop on the street.
Second: research. This is a REALLY busy week for me. Nov 25 is the International day to end violence against women and there are about a dozen marches taking place across the country as part of the day's activities. I also start interviews this week and am still attending spanish classes. I don't want to write too much about it here, but I am content with how it's all unfolding.
I'm not sure what our schedule is for December yet. Hopefully I'll get all of my interviews done by Dec 15, but I might have to hold off until January. If so, Greg-o and I are also thinking of doing some very shoestring-budget traveling. Matt is also arriving at some point in the next couple of weeks. In other words, everything is as it should be in Chile, with loose/hard plans that will surely change. Whatever happens, you can give us a call when you get here. Will you be staying at Tia Chabe's apt?
Take care too.
Love,
Eliana
Thanks so much! It's settled then, Isabella and I will travel light and shop when we arrive!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that everything is going according to plan. It's great that you and Greg-o are able to get away and do some sight-seeing while you are there. I hope you guys will have some spare time to spend with us, maybe we can go on a small road trip??? Despite many attempts to plan an itinerary,we still don't know when we will be in Vina or where we will stay once we arrive... I guess that's the Chilean way! LOL!
We will see you VERY soon! You won't believe how much Isabella has grown and changed, it's remarkable really :)
Love from M and I <3
